Size: up to 1300 mm

Description: upperside coloration varies from greyish green to brownish or black, with dark spots. Underside coloration varies from whitish to orange with black spots

Habitat: rivers, coasts, streams, lakes, ponds and the surrounding terrestrial habitat

Activity: diurnal, hibernation occurs from October to April

Diet: mostly fish, amphibians

Reproduction: oviparous, breeding period occurs from March to May
