Size: up to 1100 mm

Description: upperside coloration varies from dark green and grey to black with a yellow collar behind the head. Underside is whitish with irregular black stripes

Habitat: woodland and fields close to fresh water

Activity: diurnal, hibernation occurs from October-November to April

Diet: fish, amphibians

Reproduction: oviparous, breeding period occurs in April and May
