Common name: the Eastern Slow Worm

Distribution: Armenia, Czech Republic, Georgia, Iran, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Turkey

Size: up to 500 mm

Description: upperside light or dark brown with a dark vertebral stripe in females and distinct blue spots in males

Habitat: mixed and riverine forests, parks, field edges, agricultural areas

Activity: diurnal, nocturnal during hot summer months, hibernation occurs from September-October to March-April

Diet: various invertebrates

Reproduction: viviparous, breeding occurs in May
